“CK Dexter Haven, you have unsuspected depth!”
— Macaulay Connor
I thought I’d share some of my unsuspected depth with the world.
I had formal studies in music (piano and voice) and even made some money at it. Eventually, though, I got good enough to realize that I wasn’t actually good enough to make the kind of living I wanted to make as a performer, so I moved on to other things.
I’ve been writing and giving presentations professionally in one capacity or another for over twenty-five years. In addition to writing All is Yar, I have freelanced when times permits for other publications including LA Weekly.
I’ve also served as pre-concert lecturer for artists like Midori, Peter Oundjian, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Master Chorale, as well as presenters like The Wallis in Beverly Hills, The Philharmonic Society of Orange County, and the Musco Center for the Arts. I’ve been a guest DJ on KXLU-FM curating and co-hosting classical music programs.

I live in Southern California, travel throughout the US relatively frequently and throughout the globe when time and budget will allow. Life is good.
